James Galloway to Isaac Reed Deed 21 January 1761
(Transcribed by Kim Wettroth) Summary: Conveyance of 250 acres of land with all its benefits and five cows and one two year old steer in Craven County, North Carolina from James Galloway to Isaac Reed for the sum of 40 pounds proclamation money. James Galloway first acquired this land 14 Oct 1758 from John Wendrick for 37 pounds. Land is located on the north side of the Neuse River and on the east side of Beards Creek. The land was originally patented to Martin Frank on 4 Apr 1720. Frank sold the land to Hugh Banks, who sold it to Jno. Sheppard, who sold it to Jno. Hudler. Then “……the said Hudler sold to transferred to my Father in Jacob Hoover and by him the Southern part there of Containing one half of the Said Tract Willed? and bequeathed to me by my father as appears on Record……”. Does this imply that James Galloway’s father is Jacob Hoover – what is relationship?? Or is it perhaps his father-in-law? Note that this sale is for 45 more acres than he originally bought from Wendrick together with five cows and one two year old steer. Witnesses are John Mill and James Rooks.
