John Wendrick to James Galloway Deed 14 October 1758
(Transcribed by Kim Wettroth) Summary: Conveyance of 205 acres of land in Craven County, North Carolina, from John Wendrick to James Galloway for the sum of 37 pounds ten shillings. This land was originally patented to Martin Frank on 4 Apr 1720. Frank then conveyed the land to Hugh Banks, who sold it to John Shephard, who sold it to John Hudler, who transferred it to John Jacob Hoover who bequeathed the southern part thereof containing one half of the said tract to his son John Hoover, who transferred it to John Wendrick. The land is located “…on the north side of Nuce River and on the East side of Beards Creek….”. Note that James Galloway and his heirs are “…….forever to be holden of his Majesty his heirs or Sucessors….” and are to pay Free Rent of one shilling per hundred acres. DEED - John Wendrick to James Galloway North Carolina Craven County To all persons whatsoever to whome these presents Greetin in our Lord God Everlasting Know Ye that I John Wendrick of the province aforesd for and consideration of the sum of thirty seven pounds ten shillings proclamation money to me in hand paid before the Ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt hereof I do hereby acknowledge myself and of every part and parcel thereof fully satisfyed and contented with have given granted bargained and sold unto James Gallaway and to by these presents freely fully give grant Bargain sell allien convey confirm assign and let over unto the aforesaid James Gallaway to him his heirs or assigns for ever a certain plantation with all the parts or parcel of land thereto belonging being by Estimation two hundred and five acres be the same more or less laying and being situate on the north side of Nuce River and on the East side of Beards Creek & being a part of a track of land granted to and Pattaned by Martin Frank the fourth day of April in the year one thousand seven hundred and twenty as appears by his Pattant the Butts & Bounds whereof may fully appear by the said Pattant and by the said Martin Frank sold and bargained to Hugh Banks and by the said Banks sold and transfered to John Shephard by the said Shepard Sold and transfired to John Hudler and by the said Hudler sold and transferred to John Jacob Hoover and by him the said Southern part thereof containing one half of the said tract Willed and Bequeathed to his son John Hoover and and transfired by the said Hoover to me TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said plantation and parcel of land together with all the Houses out houses fences Gardens Orchards fields timber trees woods & under woods and all other prevelidges and Benefitts of hunting hawking Fishing Fowling and all other Prevelidges whatsoever appertaining thereto unto him the said James Gallaway his heirs or assigns forever to be holden of his Majesty his heirs or Sucessors in Free and Common Lecage?
