August 19, 1909. Charlotte Observer. DR. CHARLES DUFFY OF NEWBERN Newbern, August 18 - Dr. Charles Duffy, the oldest physician in Newbern, died here at 8 o'clock this morning from cancer. He was operated on last February and greatly improved in health, but afterwards grew rapidly worse. He was a surgeon in the Confederate army and an active practitioner for 50 years. Dr. Duffy was born in Onslow county July 18, 1888. The funeral services will be held from Centenary church tomorrow evening. Please do not contact me as I do not have any information on these individuals.
