November 8, 1904 Charlotte Observer. DEATH OF MR. JOHN J. GASKILL AT NEWBERN New Bern, Nov. 7 - Mr. John J. Gaskill, one of Newbern's most popular young men, died last night after a week's illness of blood-poisoning. Mr. Gaskill was assistant chief of the Newbern fire department and was known throughout the State for his untiring work in aiding to make State tournaments a success, and his death will be felt by all who knew him. He was 29 years old. Please do not contact me as I do not have any information on these individuals.
