Slaughter, Arthur "Cleve" 


BRIDGETON - Mr. Arthur "Cleve" Slaughter, 91, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, 
in New Bern. 
A native of Roxboro, Cleve lived most of his life in Bridgeton. For more than 40 
years, he was employed as a commercial bus driver and worked for Seashore 
Busline. 
He is survived by three sons, Arthur "Pete" Slaughter of New Bern and Cleve 
Bowen and Phil Bowen, both of Woodland; a daughter, Paulette Smith of 
Vanceboro; two broth-ers, Dorsey Slaughter of Moyock and Buyrl Slaughter 
of New Bern; three grandchil-dren and three great-grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Lucy Coward Slaughter. 
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Wilkerson Funeral 
Chapel in Vanceboro. Burial will follow in Chapman's United Methodist Church 
Cemetery. 
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home 
and other times at the home of Pete and Belinda Slaughter.

Sylvia R. Drew, 97, of New Bern died Monday, July 21, 2008, at Craven Regional 
Medical Center.

She is survived by one son, Karl Drew of New Bern; one daughter, Ruth Ann Cox 
of Brevard; one brother, George Voeks of Estes Park, Colo.; two grandchildren;

Garris, Charles Michael 

Charles Michael Garris of New Bern died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Craven 
Regional Medical Center. 
Mike was born in Washington, N.C., on February 12, 1950, the son of Ervin and 
Ulma Smith. He was adopted by Charles Lindy Garris in 1959. Mike was a mail 
route carrier in New Bern until his retirement from the U.S. Postal Service in 2006. 
He then established Garris Lawn Service. 
He is survived by his mother, Ulma Garris, of New Bern; his sister, Susan 
Williams and husband, Patrick; and nephews, Kyle and David Williams. 
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 24, at Pollock-Best Funerals & Cremations 
from 5 to 6:30 p.m. 
Following visitation, a private family memorial service will be held on Riverside 
Drive in Bridgeton at 7:30 p.m.

Price, Morgan E. 

Morgan E. Price, 83, entered into rest on Sunday evening at his residence. He 
was the husband of the late Gloria Price and Jacqueline Rae Price. 
Morgan was born January 28, 1925, in Sutton, West Virginia. He was the son 
of the late Lester F. and Lucy P. (French) Price. He attended York High and was
a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, and worked for 39 years at Agway, Inc. as an 
enterprise salesman. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, honorary 
member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Paul Catholic Church in New Bern, 
and Quaker Wrecks at Quaker Neck Country Club. 
Following cremation, a visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday with a 
Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, York, Pa., 
with the Rev. Joseph Tuscan OFM Cap officiating. Burial will be in Holy Saviour 
Cemetery with military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. 
Morgan is survived by a grandson, Joseph J. Price Jr. and his wife, Angela Price, 
of York; two great-grandsons, Cameron J. Price and Caden J. Price, both of York; 
a sister, Betty Grim of York; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death 
by a son and his wife, Joseph J. and Debra Price; and three siblings, George Price, 
Frank Price and Dorothy Snelbaker.

He was a printer and a Realtor. 
He is survived by his wife, Martha Holland Jenkins of Hampstead; two daughters, 
Michelle and April Jenkins of Wilmington; and three brothers, David Jenkins of 
Carpentersville, Ill., and John and Dennis Jenkins of Maysville.

Shirley Ann Kormanik, 72, of New Bern since 1973, passed away at Craven Regional 
Medical Center on Friday, July 18, 2008. 
She was a loving wife of 42 years, loving mother and grandmother. 
Survivors include husband, John Kormanik of New Bern; son, James Curlee Coggins 
of Raleigh; two daughters, Jeanette Shirley Chorpenning of Raleigh and Lee Acosta 
of Raleigh; four brothers, Frank Ransdell of Raleigh, R.B. Stewart of Virginia Beach, 
Va., W.E. Stewart of Los Angles, Calif. and W.C. Ransdell of Raleigh; sister,

Jones, Warren Saunders 

Warren Saunders Jones, Ph.D, 87, formerly of Hopewell, Va., died Tuesday, July 22, 
2008 in New Bern. 
A native of Williamston, he had been a long-term resident of New Bern. Dr. Jones 
served as professor and head of the Speech and Communication Department at 
Pepper-dine University in California for 30 years, until his retirement in 1988. He was 
one of the pioneers and founders of the Church of Christ in Hopewell, Va., which is 
now known as Cawson Street Church of Christ, where he preached the gospel for 55 
years. 
Dr. Jones was preceded in death by his brother, James N. Jones. He is survived by 
his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy Nichols Jones of New Bern; his daughter, Saundra 
"Sandi" Jones Carter and her husband, Dan, of Raleigh; two sons, Warren "Budd" 
Saunders Jones Jr. of Mechanicsville, Va., Alan Mason Jones and his wife, Jan, of 
Minden, Nev.; six grandchildren, Jeff Davis and his wife, Kim, of Raleigh, Jennifer 
Bollinger and her husband, Ted, of Wake Forest, Sarah and Erin Jones of Mechanicsville,

John Arthur "Hawk" Blango Jr., 76, of 308 Elder St., James City community, died 
July 24, 2008, at Craven Regional Medical Center. 
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and earned the Korean War Service Medal. 
He was a retiree of NADAP. His membership at Mt. Shiloh Missionary Baptist 
included serving as an usher, trustee, deacon and assistant of Sunday school.

with the Rev. W. E. Sinclair officiating. 
Burial will be at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

Keel Sr., Ernest Phillip 

Ernest Phillip Keel Sr., 80, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 24, 
2008, at Indian Path Hospital in Kingsport, Tenn. He was born on November 22, 
1927, in Alliance to the late Ernest and Leona Hunnings Keel. 
He was a foreman with Flour Daniels Construction in Carrollton, Ga., until he 
retired after 30 years of service. He loved doing woodwork and spent many 
hours in his workshop building crafts with deep pride. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers. 
He is survived by his wife, Jean Caho Keel of Kingsport, Tenn.; two daughters, 
Olivia Mae Stevens and husband, James, and Barbara Jean Ballard and husband, 
Danny, both of Kingsport; one son, Bruce Earl Keel of Hudson, Fla.; three sisters, 
Iris Dixon of Grantsboro, Frances Wilkinson of Hubert and June Teal of Bayboro; 
four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six 
stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandchild; and several nieces and 
nephews.

Joseph Bryan "Joe" Daw, 46, of Arapahoe died Friday, July 25, 2008 at Craven 
Regional Medical Center. 
He is survived by his wife, Tammy Ensley Daw; mother, Dorothy Baker of Vanceboro; 
father, Elbert Daw of Arapahoe; two nieces and two nephews. 
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel, with 
the Rev. Dwayne Boyd officiating. Interment will be in Paul Cemetery in Arapahoe. 
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Koonce, Tony Lee 

COVE CITY - Tony Lee Koonce, 50, died Friday, July 25, 2008. Born in Lenoir 
County, Mr. Koonce was a maintenance supervisor for the city of New Bern and 
a member of Wintergreen Free Will Baptist Church. He was an animal lover and 
gardener and had a mischievous sense of humor and was happiest doing the 
simple things of life. He was a loving husband and his family was his greatest joy. 
He was predeceased by his mother, Kay Avery Koonce. 
Tony is survived by his wife, Sheila B. Koonce; his father, Emmett Lee Koonce; 
two sons, Joshua L. Koonce and his wife, Kimberly, and Adam T. Koonce; and a 
brother, Curtis Koonce and his wife, Diane, all of Cove City. 
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Linda Smith, and husband, Danny, of 
Vanceboro; two brothers-in-law, Tommy Broadway of Thailand and Gary Broadway 
of Greenville; a niece, Alaina Stallings and her husband, James, of Greensboro; 
and nephews, Danny Lee Smith and Joey Smith of Vanceboro and Jason Broadway 
of Cary. 
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cotten Funeral Home. 
Funeral services will be Monday, July 28, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Cotten Funeral Home,

Maimone, Robert A. 


KENT, Wash. - Robert A. "Bob" Maimone, 50, formerly of New Bern, died July 20, 
2008, after a two-year battle with cancer. 
He was a native of Long Island, N.Y. He received his bachelor's degree from SUNY 
College of Environmental Science and Forestry and began his career as a laboratory 
manager in the College of Forest Resources at N.C. State University in Raleigh. He 
also pursued his master's degree while working full time. He worked for Weyerhaeuser 
in New Bern in the 1990s and in 2001 moved to Kent, where he became the program 
manager for the analytical and testing department. 
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 2 at Kent United Methodist Church. 
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of the home; daughter, Meredith Maimone of Kent; 
his father, Tony Maimone of Long Island, N.Y.; his brothers, Michael Maimone of 
Pawling, N.Y., and William Maimone of Woodside, Calif.; and sister, Karen of Long 
Island, N.Y.

VANCEBORO - Mrs. Emogene Morris Wiggins, 63, died Friday, July 25, 2008 in 
Wake Medical Center. 
The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the West Vanceboro 
Church of God by the Rev. Robert Worthington and Dr. David Whitley. Burial will be
 in the Juniper Chapel FWB Church Cemetery. 
Mrs. Wiggins, a native of Vanceboro, was a graduate of Farm Life High School and 
Hardbarger's Business College in Raleigh. She had made her home in Zebulon for 
the past 27 years. She was employed as an insurance agent for over 20 years, 
having worked with State Capital Insurance Company, Durham Life Insurance 
Company and Moore & Johnson Insurance Agency, retiring in 1994. She was a 
member of the Middlesex Church of God and was a former member of Juniper 
Chapel FWB Church. She had assisted her husband throughout his ministry. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clen and Clara Morris and a sister, 
Judith Lee Morris. 
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Raeford C. Wiggins, and two sons, 
Raeford C. Wiggins Jr. of Wilmington and Tim Lance Wiggins of Zebulon.

Creel Sr., James Randall 


DOVER - James Randall Creel Sr., 68, of 430 West Kornegay Street, died 
Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at his home. He was a business owner and operator 
for over 48 years. He was a born entrepreneur beginning his business ownership 
and operations at age 20. His businesses included Creel's Service Center, J.R. 
Creel Equipment Company, his fishing vessel, "Dolphin One," and he was a labor 
contractor until his death working with Frit Car, Inc. 
Mr. Creel served as the mayor of Dover for three terms and maintained a keen 
interest in national and local political affairs until his last days. He attended Dover 
United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and 
Etta Braxton Creel; and two brothers, Harvey Creel Jr. and Robert Creel. 
The family will receive friends from 2 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2008, at 
Westminster United Methodist Church in Kinston. The funeral services will be held 
at 2:30 p.m. with Reverend Leland Heath and Reverend Joseph Parker officiating.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Margaret Humphrey Creel of the home; his

MAYSVILLE - Thelbert S. Dudley, 95, died Wednesday at Brook Stone Living Center 
in Pollocksville. 
Mr. Dudley was an Army veteran of WWII, a retired employee of the U.S. Forest 
Service and was the oldest member of Maysville First Baptist Church.

Moore, Clarence 


Clarence Moore, 73, of New Bern, died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at Craven Regional 
Medical Center. 
He was a member of St. Stephen Free Will Baptist Church and served in the Usher, 
Trustee, Choir and Transportation ministries and was a member of the New Bern 
Men's Fellowship Chorus. He volunteered with the Food Bank and Two Rivers 
Healthcare. He was a retired city of New Bern Public Works-Grounds Department 
employee, was a former employee of Sears and CRMC Housekeeping Department 
and was the founder of Moore's Lawn Express. 
The funeral service will be at noon Saturday, July 19, 2008, at St. Stephen Free 
Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Wallace and the Rev. Sharon Marshall officiating. 
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. 
He is survived by one son, Jeffrey Moore of New Bern; two daughters, Cynthia 
Winston of New Bern and Sharon Marshall of Durham; one brother, John W. Moore 
of Winston-Salem; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Murphy, Millard Doss 

Millard Doss Murphy of Smithfield, Va. passed away on July 16, 2008. 
Known as M.D., he was born in Tifton, Ga., April 12, 1928. M.D. was the son of the 
late Andrew M. and Pearlina James Murphy. For many years, he lived in New Bern. 
His siblings include sisters, Carol, Marian, Pearlina, Ramona, and Ruby; brothers, 
Benny, Bruce, Ervine, Frank, Graham, Nick, Raymond, Roy and Selby. 
In 1948, he married Ruby Lee Hill (deceased-1973) for 25 years. While serving in 
the U.S. Army, he was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean 
War and served in the National Guard until 1973. 
Two children, daughter Betty Murphy Thomas and son Millard Donald Murphy, 
survive him. 
Also surviving are three grandchildren, Jennifer Jo DeHart, Greenville, S.C., Euclid 
DuVal Armstrong III, Orlando, Fla. and Blake Alfred Thomas, Charlottesville, Va.; 
and great-grandson Patrick Leven DeHart, Greenville, S.C. 
Mr. Murphy moved to the state of Virginia. Later, he married Jean Hinnant. He was 
the founder of Murphy Construction Company. Murphy Construction Company 
renovated homes, businesses and Chippokes Plantation. Mr. Murphy was known 
for his mas-ter craftsmanship in carpentry. His talent and meticulous work is still 
admired in many Virginia homes today. He trained young and old in the art of welding 
and carpentry work. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter. 
Mr. Murphy is also survived by his wife, Jean; three stepchildren, five step-grandchildren 
and five step-great-grandchildren. 
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, in Colonial Funeral 
Home. 
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, in 
Greenleaf Memorial Park, 900 River Road, New Bern, with the Rev. Milton Benny 
officiating. Military honors will be observed.

teacher from 1963 to 1991 in Delran, N.J.

Mary Elizabeth Tolson Wallace, 93, of New Bern, died July 16, 2008, at Britthaven of 
New Bern. 
She was born at Stafford Store, Va., the daughter of Marion Radcliff Tolson and Emma 
David Tolson. She was a devoted mother, military wife and homemaker in New Bern 
since 1946. Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Alexander 
John Wallace; her son, Terrance Wallace; and thirteen brothers and sisters. 
She is survived by three sons, Ronald Wallace and wife, Zee, Larry Wallace and wife,

Everington, John H. 

John Howard Everington, 80, of the Antioch community, went home to be 
with his Lord on Sunday, July 27, 2008. John was a member of the Antioch 
Free Will Baptist Church and had held the offices of trustee and of deacon. 
He had also served as a Sunday school teacher, a youth leader, and as the 
treasurer. He was a longtime member of the Little Swift Creek Volunteer Fire 
Department and had worked during the early days of the department to 
secure a place to locate a station and the first firefighting truck and 
equipment. He was instrumental in getting a substation in the Antioch 
community which eventually housed a pumper and a tanker as well as a 
brush truck. He held the office of president of the department for several
terms and also served as the chief, assistant chief, and as a member of the 
board of directors. He earned many certificates from Craven Community 
College for attending recommended classes pertaining to firefighting, CPR, 
and first aid. 
John was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He 
attended watchmaking school in Durham and Spencer, N.C., and worked as 
a watchmaker and jeweler for New Bern businesses for 29 years. He opened 
his own repair shop at home and later moved to the old post office building in 
Bridgeton, where he was joined by his wife, Madie, who began a small antiques 
business. They later moved to Neuse River campground and enlarged the 
antiques business, eventually phasing out the jewelry and repair shop. John 
and Madie had a farm building erected at their home on Antioch Road, where 
they both worked on the restoration and sale of antiques. John went to work 
with the Sheriff's Department as a jailer and was employed there for five and 
a half years until his retirement. In 1991 John and Madie sold the antiques 
shop and enjoyed their retirement together. 
John will be remembered as a devoted husband and Christian who was zealous
for whatever would make his community a better place to live. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel and Lillian Rowe Everington; 
sister, Gladys Everington Hartley; and brothers, Manly and Rodney Everington. 
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Madie A. Everington of the home, and 
several nieces and nephews.

Godette, Thomas Lee 

Thomas Lee Godette, 43, of 67-A Adams Creek Road died Saturday, July 
26, 2008, at Carteret General Hospital. 
He was a 1983 honor graduate of Havelock High School and was employed 
as a carpenter. 
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at New Hope 
Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Laura?S. Frazier and James E. 
Vance officiating.? Burial will be in the Morris Cemetery. 
?He is survived by his mother, Doris Godette of Carolina Pines; three brothers, 
Walter Lee Godette, Jr. and Albert Godette of Havelock and Leandro Godette 
of Beaufort; and two sisters, Clara Mae Godette of Havelock and Tina Godette 
of Carolina Pines.

Ipock, Christine Harwood 

Christine Harwood Ipock, 81, of Cove City died Sunday, July 27, 2008 at Craven 
Regional Medical Center. 
Christine was born in London, England, in 1926 and grew up as a child during 
the war working at her parents' dental practice. As a young adult she traveled 
to Paris and began a successful modeling career with such names as Dior, 
Balenciago and Matisse. She studied history and literature and made many 
friends through her work at Tryon Palace in New Bern. Her love for horses led 
her down many paths. Christine taught equestrian skills and dressage throughout 
her life both locally and on senior levels. She was awarded a charter membership 
of the NCDCTA for all her contributions in the equestrian field. Christine's goal 
each day was to live life to its fullest---and she did! 
A memorial service will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church on Friday, 
August 1, 2008, at 11 a.m. Following the service the family will visit with friends
 in the church fellowship hall. 
Christine's memory will be cherished by her husband of 53 years, Ray C. Ipock 
of Cove City, her son, Bryan A. Ipock and wife, Bridget, of Cove City; her daughter,
 Melanie G. Ipock of Montclair, N.J.; her sister Sylvia Page-Roberts of Dorset, 
England; her grandchildren, Fanny and William; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jewell Jr., Jesse S. 

VANCEBORO - Jesse S. Jewell Jr., 81, died Monday, July 28, 2008. 
A graveside memorial service will be conducted Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in 
the Vanceboro Cemetery. The family will gather at St. Paul's Episcopal 
Church after the service. 
He was a native of Pamlico County. He lived his early life in Tyrrell County
and most of his adult life in Craven County. He had lived in Vanceboro for 
two years. He worked as a land surveyor and timber cruiser and worked as 
a construction project manager for large industrial and commercial projects. 
He traveled all of the East Coast and much of the United States in his work. 
He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Vanceboro. 
He is survived by his wife, Ruth L. Jewell; two sons, William Jewell and wife, 
Jennifer, of New Bern and Roy Jewell of Virginia; one daughter, Carolyn 
Phelps of Creswell; four stepdaughters, Bonnie Roix and husband, Gary, 
of Winterville, Katie Lane of Durham, Me., Roxanne Bosse and husband, 
Michael, of Winterville and Robin Rider of Seattle, Wash.; three stepsons, 
Donald Holland and wife, Carolyn, Richard Angotti Jr. and wife, Brenda, and 
Rodney and wife, Ada, all of Millinocket, Me.; one sister, Syble Spruill and 
husband, Roy, of Creswell; one brother, Alton Jewell and wife, Virginia of Ivor, 
Va.; six grandchildren, 16 stepgrandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and 
four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Haskell Valko, 57, of Havelock died Friday, July 25, 2008, at 
Craven Regional Medical Center in New Bern. 
Mrs. Valko was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Mary Edwards Blackman, 83, of New Bern died July 28, 2008, at Craven

Newman, Glenn Edwin 

Dr. Glenn Edwin "Ed" Newman, 61, passed way on July 24, 2008, at Duke 
Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on 
November 18, 1941, to the late Dr. Glenn C. and Peggy Newman of Clinton. 
Ed graduated from Clinton High School in 1966 and attended Duke University 
on a football scholarship. After graduating from Duke Medical School in 1973, 
Ed completed five years of a cardiothoracic surgery residency at Duke as well 
as two years at the National Heart and Lung Institute in Bethesda, Md. He also 
completed a residency in radiology at Duke and was a member of the Duke 
Medical Center faculty as a vascular and interventional radiologist for the past 
25 years. 
Ed leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 31 years, Mary; his 
daughters, Kathryn and Lauren; his son-in-law, Walter DuPriest; his brothers, 
William Neal Newman and family of Raleigh, and Walter Joseph Newman, M.D., 
and family of New Bern, Raleigh and South Carolina; and numerous cousins. 
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Duke 
University Chapel. 
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the 
Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, 1113 W. Main St., Durham, and at 12:30 p.m. in the 
Duke Chapel Lounge. Please enter the lounge using the Campus Ministry door

Skipper, Irene Jane O'Neill 

Irene Jane O'Neill Skipper, 74, of Havelock lost her long courageous battle with 
cancer on Monday, July 28, 2008, with her loving family by her side at home. She 
was a loving wife, wonderful mother, and great friend to many. She will be greatly 
missed by all who knew her. She was born on May 13, 1934, in Laconia, New 
Hampshire, to the late Frederick E. O'Neill, Sr. and Mary Alice Quellette Marston. 
She was a member of Annunciation Roman Catholic Church and served in the United 
States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1957. After raising her children, she attended 
and graduated from Carteret Technical College with a business degree, which she 
used to start working with Facilities Maintenance at Cherry Point. She eventually 
retired in 1996 from NADEP as security manager. She was an active lifetime 
member of VFW Post 7315 in Havelock. Her favorite pastime, known to all, was 
going to yard sales. 
A Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2008, at Annunciation 
Roman Catholic Church, Havelock, with the priest, Father Gregory Spencer, officiating. 
She is survived by her adoring husband of 52 years, MGYSGT USMC "Retired" 
Carlton R. Skipper of Havelock; son, Carlton R. Skipper Jr. and wife, Linda, of 
Swansboro; daughters, Ramona Polk and husband, William "Billy," of Beaufort, S.C., 
Sara Loveland and companion, Robert Ring, of Havelock and Karen Larkin and husband, 
Mark, of Newport. 
Other family who bear this loss are her sisters, MaryAnn Foote of Laconia, N.H., her 
loving caregiving younger sister, Frances Kehl of Lacoina, N.H.; and brother, Frederick 
"Fred" O'Neill and wife, Gladys, of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren Sheila, Julie, 
Vincent, Carlton III, William; and her great-grandchildren who will greatly miss their 
grandmother.

CHOCTAW, Okla. - Franklin Earl "John" Brimage, 40, formerly of Cove City, 
N.C., died on Sunday, July 27, 2008, at his residence. 
He was a graduate of West Craven High School Class of 1986 and a member 
of the United States Air Force.

Hadley, John Thomas 

John Thomas Hadley, TSGT (USAF, Retired), 72, of New Bern, died July 26, 
2008, at Craven Regional Medical Center. He was born December 13, 1935, in 
Williamston to Sarah Hadley. He retired from the United States Air Force after 
20 years of service. 
John is survived by his sons, Robert Hadley, and his wife, Patricia, of Newport, 
Greg Hadley of Robersonville, and Christopher Hadley, and his wife, Mi Yang, 
of Cheyenne, Wyo.; grandsons, William, Michael, and Steven Hadley, and 
Stephen Hadley, and his wife, Jessica; granddaughters, Sydnie Pallante, and 
her husband, Daniel, and Anastasia Sturgis; one great-granddaughter, Aliyah 
Diamond; and one sister, Mildred Worsley of Williamston. 
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, at Coastal 
Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville. Military Honors will be provided

Christine Glover Javed, 65, of 1300 Norwood Circle died Saturday, July 26, 
2008, at Craven Regional Medical Center.

Eva Pate Lancaster, 84, of Patetown died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Glenaire 
Retirement Community in Cary.

Shilstone IV, Charles Parker "Charlie" 

Charles Parker "Charlie" Shilstone IV of 2616 Trent Road, New Bern, passed away 
in his sleep on Monday, July 28, 2008. 
He was a native of Long Island, N.Y., and lived for the past 21 years in Newport and 
New Bern. He was a master craftsman in the stone industry and the owner of Rock 
Solid Stone and Tile in New Bern. 
He is survived by his wife, Gale Potters Shilstone; his son, Charles "CJ" Parker 
Shilstone V; his two daughters, Jill Shilstone and Cynthia Oxenreider; his grandson, 
Charles Parker Shilstone VI; his three granddaughters, Ashley, Cierra and Savannah. 
He also leaves behind his parents, Charles Parker Shilstone III and Bernice Shilstone; 
three brothers, Robert, Bruce, and Tim Shilstone; and two sisters, Linda and Donna 
Himpler.
