This is the Last Will & Testament of Roger Squires, 1772.



  It lists children Amos, Boaz, Aliff Cuthrall,
Ruth Herrington, Liddey, Thamer & wife, Jean.

In the Name of God Amen
        I Roger Squires of Craven County, Cooper, being weak in body but of
perfect mind and memory thanks to God for it calling to mind the mortality of
mans body knowing that it is appointed for all men once to Die Do make ordain and
constitute this my last will and testament in the manner and form following
(Viz.) principally and first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of God
that gave it my body to the Earth to be buryed in a Christian like and decent
manner at the discretion of my Exrs, hereafter named. Nothing doubting but at
the general Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty Power of
God and as to such worldly goods as it hath pleased God to bless me with I give
and dispose of in the manner and form following

        I leave to my well beloved wife Jean my non dwelling plantation with the
land there to belonging During her Natural Life of widowhood but that she shall
have no right to make sale of any of the timber of other priviledges or to
dispose of the same except need require it for the maintenance of her children
under age, and at the Death or second marriage of the said Jean my wife the said
plantation I give and bequeath to my youngest daughter, Liddey Squires to her
and her heirs for ever.
        Item I give and bequeath to my son Amos Squires one shilling sterling
money of Great Britain as his full part of my estate to him and his heirs
forever
        Item I give and bequeath to my son Boaz Squires one shilling sterling
money of Great Britain as his full part of my estate to him and his heirs
forever
        Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Ruth Herrington one shilling
money of Great Britain as her full part of my estate to her and her heirs
forever
        Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Aliff (Alice) Cuthrall one
hundred and six acres of land by estimation more or less lying on Goose Creek
Craven County which said land I bought of James Brinson to her and her heirs
forever
        I leave to my well beloved wife Jean (cut off page copy?) goods chattels
and ?after the payment of all my debts to be posessed by her during her natural
life and at her death or second marriage then it shall be equally divided
between my two youngest daughters Thamer Squires and Liddey Squires and to be
divided by three men of their own choosing to them and their heirs forever and
if either of my two youngest daughters should die without lawful heirs of her
body that then her part of my estate whither land or personal estate shall fall
to the other, but and if the said Jean my wife should Marry again that then she
shall have one third of my personal estate and quit her executrix as hereafter
mentioned
        Item I likewise constitute and appoint my well beloved wife Jean with my
son in law Joshua (?) Cuthral my whole and s? executor and executrix of this my
last will and testament desiring that said Exrs may pay and receive all my debts
of all kinds in witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and fixed my seal
this twenty seventy day of February Anno Dom One thousand seven hundred and
seventy
