Of Jno. S. Nelson of reference of August Term 1834.
The parties having been duly notified, appear before me with the evidence
which accompany this report on the 22nd & 23 of September & 20 & 21 days of
October 1834 and having examined the same I respectfully Report that the
defendants Testator received unto his possession in the month of June A. D.
1810 the negro boy Hampton who was given to the petitioner Esther by her
grandmother Sarah Carraway. That Hampton was 2 years old in June 1810 and was
a charge to Jno S Nelson until June 1814. That said Nelson is entitled to the
sum of $18 for (illegible) - for providing said boy provision & clothes from
June 1810 to June 1814 + that from June 1814 to June 1820 Hampton was of an
age to earn food and clothes - that for the year ending June 1821 Hampton was
worth $12 & for the next year $13 - for the year ending June 1823 - $14 for
the year ending June 1824 $15 for year ending June 1825 $20 for the next year
$22 for the year ending June 1827 $25 for the year ending June 1828 $27 - for
the year ending June 1829 $30 & for the last year the same sum $30 - that the
petitioners having taken Hampton into his possession in March 1830 the time of
his intermarriage with Esther Nelson has no claim for wages beyond that day -
that the balance owed petitioner for wages & interest up to Nov 1834 after
deducting the sum allowed for funding Hampton from his 2nd & his 6th year &
interest ______ be $107.58/100 - that defendant holds an obligation of
Josephus Nelson for $312 with Interest from 18th June 1834 making an amount of
principal & interest due said defendant Nov 10 1834 of $319.39/100 and
exceeding petitioners claim by $211.81/100 - that the account No 1 - &
depositions of James Masters, Southy Rew, David Tolson, Mary Chadwick, Jno
Neale, Robert Y. Rew & Benjamin Mason are submitted as a part of this report.
