To the Worshipfull Court of Craven County The memorial of William Truhet & wife sheweth that your memorialist Delila Truhet was left a widow by her late husband William West some time in the year 1782 with four small children with a very inconsiderable property that she has by her industry kept them together & supported them ever since until one of his sons to wit Daniel about twelve years of age was tom from her in violence by John West who aledged (sic) the authority of this -court for so doing, your memorialist thinks it extremely hard she being the parent and natural guardian of the child to have him bound & thus wrested from her without her knowledge or aprobation (sic) ---- They therefore pray the court to order said West to produce the child in court and to give your petitioners a hearing as they are persuaded they can --------------- such reasons as will induce the court to reverse the order and anull the indenture if such have been made & they are in ------------- bound well pray ----------- March 9th 1790 Wm & Delila Truhet On reverse side of paper: The memorial of Wm & Delila Trewit Ordered that the boy within mentioned continue with John West agreeable to his Indenture.
